Community and Civic Affairs Committee

Brother Ivory G. Cooper, Chairperson

Please support The Late Night Hoops (LNH) Basketball program that began on August 20th. This program is designed to help reduce violent crimes among teenagers and young adults in hot spot locations by providing a sporting activity such as basketball along with critically needed exposure to health and human services resources. LNH will be held at 2 sites each Friday from 10:00
p.m. – 2:00 a.m. rotating among 5 sites throughout the city. The sites which will have LNH are Bald Eagle Recreation Center (SW – Ward 7), Kennedy Recreation Center (NW – Ward 2), Boys & Girls Club (B&GC) #2 (NW – Ward 6), B&GC #10 (NW – Ward 1) and B&GC #14 (NE – Ward 7).

It is the committee’s goal for Alpha Omega Chapter to register at least one team to participate in this program. Registration is free and participation will give Omega additional visibility plus the opportunity to interact with at risk youth in hot spots. Team Omega will need a seasoned coach and a full roster since plenty of substitution will be necessary unless we stock the team(s) with Brothers from Alpha Chapter and Omicron Gamma Chapter. We appeal to those Brothers who want to relive their previous athletic glory, real or imagined, and aren’t afraid to break out their new Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Converse, And 1, Puma, etc. gear on the court of intense competition. I have been assured that emergency medical staffing will be available in case some of the more experienced Brothers suffer some mysterious debilitating injuries such as massive stamina deprivation, excessive muscular fatigue and ultra-aching joint syndrome.
