Basileus' Message (cont.)

Brothers, be reminded that we remain in the midst of a political season like none other. This nation is confronted with issues of divisiveness that hopefully we will rise above and not be discouraged from full participation in the electoral process. As I mentioned in previous newsletters: “too many of our forbearers were denied the basic right to vote in this country. Regardless of your political preference I encourage you to exercise this basic right that we have.”

We are continually reminded of the service and sacrifice of our men and women in the Armed Services and particularly those who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Multiple deployments in these and other areas of conflicts around the world has placed a significant strain on our service members and their families. Brothers, please continue to keep them in our thoughts and prayers and when given the opportunity lets thank them as individuals for their continued and selfless service to this country.

On March 8, 2008 The Talent Hunt program was held at the Howard University Rankin Chapel. This year there were nine participants in the program and $2550 in prizes awarded. Kalon Hayward a senior at Duke Ellington HS was the overall winner and will represent the Washington D.C. Chapters at the District Talent Hunt Competition. I’d like to thank the Talent Hunt Committee under the leadership of Bro. Philip Thomas for another job well done.

The Memorial Day Luncheon was held on 15 March 2008 at the Navy Yard. Brothers, thank you for your participation in making this a memorable event. Many of the widows of deceased brothers continue to express how much they appreciate Alpha Omega’s efforts to remember their departed husbands, our brothers in Omega chapter. Many thanks go to Bro. Ralph Briscoe and the Memorial and Amenities committee for another outstanding job.

LOOKING AHEAD:

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING: The Executive Committee meeting will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2008, at 7:00pm.

MONTHLY CHAPTER MEETING: The next monthly chapter meeting will take place on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at 6:00pm at the Fraternity house. This is the fourth Saturday of the month. Brothers, you are reminded that the appropriate attire for this meeting remains shirt, coat, and tie.
